Remember September

This last week of September, the Tiny Turtles focused on reviewing all the things they learned about this month. We went over family and family members. We reviewed everything “school” and we also went over the house and the rooms in it.

The kids really enjoyed playing in a little house we set up for exploration. The Tiny Turtles also got to exercise their fine motor skills by playing with blocks and pom poms.

Our art project was a lot of fun! We focused on the color yellow, while making our school bus. The kids got to practice gluing during creativity time.

In Physical Development, we used different props to shake and rattle, We also worked on stomping, kicking, and various leg movements. Many of the songs we used to exercise were also based mostly on parts of the body.

During story time we had an entertaining puppet show to go over family members, we reviewed books about going to school, and to go over body parts we used a fun Mickey Mouse doll the kids love.

Finally, on Friday, we had a mime visit Toddler Tree. The show was so much fun! The mime showed the kids many facial expressions and feelings. He also did some magic tricks and made the children laugh really hard. The Tiny Turtles behaved very well. It was wonderful!

We look forward to beginning October now. It is going to be so much fun with all the Halloween excitement!

Bye, Bye September!

During this week we reviewed body parts, family members, school items and identified different feelings. Next week we will continue learning all of the shapes, lines and colors. Big Bears will also have the opportunity to review different objects and relate them to a specific shape and/or color. We live in a shape and line world!

This Friday, Sept. 30th we had fun pretending to be mimes. We had several children expressing feelings using mimics. Once they saw the real Mime their facial expressions were captured by our cameras. They all felt safe and were amazed by the Mime’s presentation.

We also practiced our new rhyme “The Tree “each one takes turn to say it in front of their peers and sometimes they even act while they say it. We love observing how each day they learn new things!

We will also talk and practice a short song and role play “Christopher Columbus”.
A quick reminder: please remember to label all jackets and sweaters to avoid mix ups.

Have a great weekend!

Our School!

During this week, we have been talking about our school and everything related to what our students see and do in their daily routine. Vocabulary words, such as classroom, chalkboard, calendar, table, chair, cubby, teacher, apple, friends, school bus and car seat have been reviewed daily during our school week. It was very easy for them to understand this topic since they were learning about things that they can actually relate to and see and feel every day.  Using our magic pointer was fun to have the students name different items we would find in our classroom. We also played with Mr. Mikes school bus which they loved as it gave them the opportunity to both sing and act out this weeks nursery rhyme: “The Wheels on The Bus”. Activities enjoyed by them to reinforce these concepts include: Drawing on the chalkboard themselves as well as having Mrs. Martha and I draw different school related objects for them to guess. We also made our own mini version of a chalkboard and our very own school bus craft!

Mr. Mike talked about teachers, and the class is able to pronounce both Mrs. Martha´s name and mine as well! Different colored apples were shown to them, as well as different presentations of apples (apple juice & apple puree) and they even had the opportunity to taste a piece of it (if they wanted to). Most of them wanted seconds!! They also practiced their fine motor skills making apple prints in art! We cut apples in half and with red and green paint they made apple print crowns!

Books read to them this week include titles such as: Elmo Goes to School, Baby Bop Goes to School, Clifford´s 1st School Day, Take Me to School With You, I am Going to School Today, and My School Bag. It is wonderful to see how much they can remain seated now during Story Time!

Being the leader is now understood by our students and they allow the leader to participate in his/her daily activities without interfering. It is such an exciting moment when they try to guess what is in the mystery bag everyday!

Next week we will be reviewing all of September´s topics starting with body parts! Our students will also get familiarized with our new season right now:  fall.

As you can see, our Terrific Tigers have many wonderful activities  prepared  for them everyday! It is a huge privilege to be able to be part of your child´s daily activities during their morning here with us!

School Stuff

Big Bears had fun learning all about school. They are also adapting to new rules and instructions such as how and where to line up, walk and sit down. They are learning the consistency of a routine.

I would like to invite you to read a short story to your child at least four times a week. As you know, this activity will help her/him to develop language skills, both verbal and non verbal. I encourage you to have a conversation about the story afterwards. Your child will enjoy it!

During Creativity Big Bears had fun making a chalkboard and using a chalk to print their initial. They also were very excited doing a school bus by using different techniques.

Next Friday September 30th our friend the Mime will visit Toddler Tree. We are looking forwrd to seeing his performance.

Here is a short poem for such wonderful parents!

“An Apple for the Parent”

An Apple for the teacher…

It´s really nothing new.

Except when you remember

Parents are teachers, too!

Have a nice weekend!

Getting Ready For School

This week we went over all the topics about school and friends. The Tiny Turtles enjoyed “riding” a school bus and singing “The Wheels on the Bus.” They got to learn about their teachers, a school box full of items, the chalkboard, and everything else involving their school.

We went over the different school supplies the kids use. For example: They explored using scissors, crayons, and markers during exploration.

During creativity, the kids got to use glue and paint. They started working on next week´s project which is a school bus.

While the kids enjoyed their recess, we also helped the Tiny Turtles practice walking up and down a ramp and also climbing stairs and crossing bridges.

During Story time, we read books such as “Getting Ready for School”, “Going to School”, and “Elmo Goes to School.”

We are looking forward to next week when we will be reviewing everything we learned in the month of September. We are excited to start October! Halloween is just around the corner!

Viva México!

This week we reviewed family and some of the rooms in the house. The Tiny Turtles had a lot of fun learning about the kitchen and playing in the kitchen during recess.

We also taught the kids about the Mexican flag. We showed them the colors and played the national anthem.

In art, they got creative painting some pasta, and making a necklace out of it.

We finished the short week with some fun Mexican Activities. During Circle Time, Mr. Mike, had the kids ring the bell and yell “Viva México!¨

During Physical Development, they also did dances with hula hoops, such as the “Mexican Hat Dance”, and the “Chicken Dance.”

We hope you had a fun long weekend. We are looking forward to this week´s activities that include a lot of fun stuff involving school: classrooms, chalkboards, teachers, and apples.

¡Viva México!

Dear Parents

Thank you for attending Open House. We really enjoyed meeting you and seeing the very creative ideas you came up with for your child’s mystery bag!

All your children were very excited to receive the “Mystery Bag”. It will be used as a “show and tell” activity for whoever is the leader or super kid for the day. The Mystery Bag will be sent home a day prior to the assigned date for you child to be the leader. We appreciate your child can share and talk about in class!

This week we were talking about family, learning what each member does. We want all Big Bears to know their parents name, not just (mom/mama) and (daddy/papa). We also had fun pretending to do different things around the house. Of course they loved being chefs baking cookies.

Thank you for dressing our Big Bears in the colors of the Mexican flag. They looked wonderful and had a great time celebrating Mexican Independence throughout the day.

Don t forget that hugging is a great medicine !

Have a fun and save long weekend !!!

Ms. Caya and Miss Karen

We are family!

This week was all about family! We began on Monday talking a  little bit about the parts of the body. Then, the ball got rolling, and we talked about Mom, Dad, sister, brother, Grandpa & Grandma.

During creativity, the kids really enjoyed making their ¨Family Tree¨. They got to practice painting, gluing, and of course, sprinkling glitter.

In Physical Development, the Turtles danced to songs such as ¨The Body Rock¨ and ¨Shake my sillies out.¨

We also challenged them to build a tower with some soft bricks. Of course, their favorite part was pushing the tower down to the ground.

Friday, the children got to play with balls. They threw them, bounced them, kicked them, and threw them through hula hoops. It was so much fun!

We´re looking forward to next week (It´s a short one because of Independence Day!) We will be teaching the kids about Green, White, and Red and the Mexican Flag.

We will also be covering topics about different rooms of the house.

Hope you have a wonderful weekend! See you soon!

Talking about the Family!

Dear Terrific Tigers Parents,

Week # 4 has finished already! During this past week we talked about the Family and its members. The vocabulary words used during this week were: mother, father, brother, sister, baby, grandmother, and grandfather. We sang about our family using finger puppets to represent each family member. Some of them even mentioned who their brothers or sisters were. We used different types of hats and props to dress up as mother, father, grandfather and grandmother, the kids had a lot of fun dressing up as them.

During Creativity Class this week they worked on different techniques and colors, such as yellow, green, and blue. They used paintbrushes to paint on plates their yellow happy faces, green sick faces and blue sad faces. Finally they also practiced their fine motor skills ripping china paper and pasting the little pieces onto their Mexican Flag.

Books read this week included titles such as: My Mommy & I, Daddy & Me, Babies,! Who´s my Mommy? My Grandma & I, and My Grandpa!

Our Cooperative Play Time included activities such as making towers with blocks, separating the different colored chips into the containers, picking items out and placing them in ice cube trays, working on puzzles and using the peg boards.

One of their favorite activities of the day is the “Surprise Bag”, where the leader shows his/her classmates what is inside his/her special bag and everyone gets a chance to see what it is and talk about it! They really enjoy being the leader of the day!

We are very happy to welcome into our Terrific Tiger family Ricardo (Richy) Flores González! He has transitioned very nicely into our daily routine as well as quickly befriending all our Terrific Tigers.

Next week our theme will be house and the different parts it has in it. We would like to remind you that next Friday, September 16th is a National Holiday and we will not be attending school that day. We hope you enjoy spending time with your little ones at home!

We hope you have a very pleasant weekend!

Sincerely, Mrs. Martha & Mrs. Sofi
