“We’re Going to the Zoo”

We are now in the month of May! Zoo and water animals are the main topics of the month, and this first week we talked about jungle, monkey, elephant, giraffe, lion and zebra. Tiny turtles are very excited getting to know more about these animals, the sounds that they make as well as their features.

Children had a lot of fun in exploration time, playing with a “barrel of monkeys”, tower of monkeys game and plastic and plush zoo animals. They had a blast with our sensory box which had some plastic leaves and grass. Kiddos enjoyed taking their plastic zoo animals to the “Habitat” box, and making the sound that each animal makes.

In creativity class we started our “Zoo” using different materials to create the animals we’re learning so much about. In physical development we are starting to rehearse for our end of the year program, you’re going to love it!

Books we loved this week: “Ten little monkeys jumping on the bed”/ “Bath time”/ “Babies first animals”/ “Lion pocket book”.

Video of the week: Super simple songs – “Let’s go to the Zoo”

Movies of the week: “The Jungle Book”/ “The Lion King”/”Madagascar”

Vocabulary words: Jungle- Monkey/ Elephant/ Giraffe/ Lion/ Zebra.

Next week vocabulary words: Crocodile/ Tiger/ Kangaroo/ Bear/ Hipo/ Rhinoceros

Wild Animals!

We have started a brand new month….the month of May! Our Terrific Tigers are really showing excitement about everything they have learned in this school year! It is such a pleasure to see them participate and want to take action in our class!

This week we started talking about wild animals. We explained to them that we can find them in the jungle or at the zoo. Some of them even mentioned that they have been to a zoo already. Our vocabulary words for this week include jungle, monkey, elephant, giraffe, lion, and zebra. We have been working with plush animals, puppets, toy wild animals, puzzles and posters. Students are now able to identify and talk a little about each one of these animals seen during this week.

During this week in Creativity Class our students have been making several crafts that will be used next week in order to create a poster of different wild animals. They are getting everything ready, using their finger prints, tempra paint, crayons, and markers.

Physical Education class has been really fun, since they have been dancing to the music of these wild animals, such as the Monkey Dance, the Elephant Song, Animal Action Song, Going to the Zoo, Elephants have Wrinkles, among others. They have loved to act like these animals, imitating their movements. We are also practicing for our Final Festival, which will be in June.

Story Time has been related to this theme as well. Stories read to them are The Jungle Book, In the Jungle, I am a Wild Animal, The Little Elephant, Zoo Animals, My Jungle Pop/up Book, and At the Zoo.

Our proud leaders this week have been Eva, David, Eduardo, Victor and Gabriel! It is always a thrill to see them so excited showing everyone their surprise in their special bag!

We are happy to mention that we have 2 more students who have proudly achieved to be potty trained! Congratulations!

Next week we will continue to talk about this interesting theme, reviewing more and exciting animals! We hope you have a great weekend!

Big Bears Week 4

What a week, full of excitement !!! We are having a great time doing different activities.

During Circle Time with Mr. Mike they role play : “ Here is the Beehive”. They wanted to be one!! He taught them:

Here is the Beehive
Where are the bees?
Hidden away where nobody sees
Watch and you!! see them!
Come out of the hive
One, two, three, four, five !!!

As you all know it was a blast celebrating “Children´s Day Picnic”. Oh, they enjoyed every moment! Having a picnic and participating in all the different activities. You should have seen their faces. Even the teachers felt like kids again!

Next week we will start the topic about “Jungle Animals”. They will learn about their characteristics, habitat and sounds.

We are so happy to see how each one have been progressing during this school year. We have been reviewing all the vocabulary and rhymes they have learned until now. By doing this we are trying to reinforce their retention and memory skills.
