Creepy Crawlies!

We started this week with a new theme: bugs! For some interesting reason, they really like to hear about them! We talked about insects and they learned that they have six legs and three body parts. Spiders, however have 8 legs!

Vocabulary words seen this week include: ladybug, grasshopper, cricket, caterpillar, butterfly, ants, and anthill.  They were able to look at pictures of these bugs and get to see and “play” with toy bugs. One of the things they liked the best this week was talking about how a caterpillar comes from an egg, and eats and eats to get big and fat and then makes a “house” (cacoon) and having a butterfly come out of it is amazing for them! They really understood this concept! Some of our students enjoyed wearing butterfly wings and pretending they were butterflies!

Our Creativity Class was lots of fun as well… they have been practicing their open-close movements with training scissors and worked on their “bugs” project, using their fingerprints in order to make different bugs, such as ladybugs, bees, and made caterpillars, ants and grass and a blue sky. It turned out really cool!

During physical development they explored jumping through hoops and crawling through a  tunnel like ants. They hopped like grasshoppers to songs like “Grasshopper Hop” and “Bugs.” They marched into and out of the Gym class to the music of “The Ants go Marching”!

Stories read this week were Ten Little Ladybugs, Quick as a Cricket, The Very Hungy Caterpillar, Percival, the Plain Little Caterpillar, Busy Bugs, Munch Munch, The Ant and the Grashopper, The Icky Bug Alphabet Book.

Our leaders this week were Lilia María, Emilia and Federico.

Of course, how can we not mention our Childrnen´s Day Party! On Thursday we celebrated our little ones on their special day.  We had our normal routine activites until 10:30 and then we all went outside and had a nice picnic with the snacks and beverages provided by some of the moms. After this fun picnic time, there were several activities that the kids enjoyed in the playground. Making “mud with worms” , using chocolate pudding and Oreo cookies with gummy worms, which  was one of their favorite activites! Other activities included a piñata, swat the bees, water and sand, and a special “Zumba” lesson provided by Miss Mely! Most of the children liked this music and danced with us! Seeing our students happy is our greatest thrill! Congratulations to all of them on their special day!

We hope you have a very special nice and long weeked with your family. We are looking forward in seeing all of our students on Monday!

Happy Children’s Day!

Today was all about having lots and lots of fun! We had a little party to celebrate the joy of Toddler Tree kinder… your kids! To celebrate this special day we had fun activities planned for them like “swat the fly”, water & sand tables, hitting a piñata and making a mud pie with gummy worms. Children had so much fun! we had a nice picnic outside, a Zumba class with Miss Mely and a yummy cupcake afterwards. It’s truly a privilege to watch those happy faces, enjoying themselves and having a blast.

This week was our last with the insects theme, turtles enjoyed playing with a creepy crawlies sensory box, role playing as butterflies and marching as ants. In our Creativity class with Miss Cristy, Turtles made an “insect garden” poster, they really enjoy pointing at the insects and naming them. We’ll be sending these home on Monday. Next week it’s going to be all about the jungle!

Remember that tomorrow there’s no classes! Classes resume on Monday May 2, 2016.

April Week 3

During this week, Big Bears learned all about planting, flower parts and some creepy crawlies. We saw how these insects are all different: some have hairy legs and tiny wings while others have long antenas and yellow rings, and different number of legs. Big Bears also learned that a flower has a stem, leaves, and roots.

If you look around you can find lots of insects anywhere inside or outside of your house.

They had such a great time with the farm animals! During creativity with Ms. Cristy, they were very excited to complete the farm animals in the barn project!!

During Circle Time with Mr. Mike they role played this theme. They all wanted to make different sounds and pretended to be their favorite animal.

Next week we will continue with the creepy crawlies: lady bugs, caterpillars, grasshoppers, butterfly and ant hill.
I am looking forward to seeing you on Tuesday April 26 to talk about your child’s progress. If for any reason you won’t be able to attend, please don’t worry as we will meet in June before summer break.
On April 28 we will have ourChildren´s Day Party. We also remind you that on Friday April 29 there will be no classes due to Labor Day weekend.

We had such fun with Mr. and Mrs. Cadena on Tuesday! The kids were really excited with this pair of awesome story tellers. Thank you for coming!

Planting in our Garden

Planting, sun, water, seed, soil, flowers and trees were some of the topics we learned about this week. Kids learned how plants get to grow, grow, grow, and we also introduced some of the insects we can find in the outdoors. Next week we are going to continue with the creepy crawlies theme. Yesterday we celebrated Emma’s Super Kid! Although her birthday is in August 5 we didn’t want to miss the opportunity to wish her a very happy birthday! Her grandma and mommy came to be with Emma and they brought some tasty cupcakes to share with everyone.

We love you Emma and hope you had a blast on our little party!

For exploration time we made some “bees”: yellow balloons with black stripes around them and turtles were excited playing with them. Kids pretended to plant, plow and hoe the weeds in their “garden” (green paper mache cut into stripes) with some shovels and hoes. Our spring garden sensory box was also a great way to learn about flowers, leaves, twigs and grass, exploring all of their different textures.

This week in our Creativity department turtles finished their barn and farm animals project, they were pretty excited to take it home and show you all of the farm animals they made. We are starting a bugs and insects project, and kids are having so much fun in the process.

Have a nice weekend!

All about Planting!

This week our Terrific Tigers started a new topic: we focused mainly on “Planting”. We talked about how to put seeds in the soil, and how the plants need  sunlight, water, and air to grow. They learned that they can plant flowers, trees and a variety of plants, as well. They were able to see real products that came from planting, such as onions, cucumbers, lettuce, broccoli, and apples. After looking at pictures of these products, they felt, and smelled them.

We finished this week talking about a new theme: insects! For some reason, this is a topic that they really enjoy! We talked about worms, bugs, dirt, bees, flies and beehives. They even got a chance to try some crackers with honey made by bees!

During Creativity Class they finished their farm project and took it home. They made a red barn, and filled it with different kinds of farm animals made by using their hand print and foot prints. They were able to recognize these animals!

Physical Education Class has been lots of fun dancing to different kinds of music related to these themes.

Stories read this week include: The Seed Song Book, Good Morning Sun, In my Garden, The Icky Bug, The Very Busy Bee.

On Friday, April 29, we will have a holiday. There will be no school that day, since we will be celebrating Labor Day (May 1st).

We are happy to say that our students have been doing really well in their potty training process! As soon as you think your child is ready, please let us know and we will be happy to help out during their time in the morning with us! It is such a pleasure to see them learn so many things!

Learning about the Farm!

Welcome back! We are happy to be back into our routine again with our wonderful Terrific Tigers once more!  We all had a nice time to relax and rest and are ready to continue with our daily activities until June! Time sure passes by so quickly when we are having so much fun!

April is here and with this new month comes a new theme: we have been talking this week about The Farm. We   have seen new vocabulary words such as farmer, crops, animals, barn, fence, pond, hay, field,  We also talked about farm food and how the farmers plant & grow food we eat, such as corn and beans. They have understoon that  farm animals give us food as well, such as milk, eggs and butter from the milk! We focused this week on talking about cows and horses.

During Exploration Time they have been really interested in manipulating barn & farm objects, such as , toy animals, and everything related to this theme.  In Creativity Class they started working on their own barn, using a brown paper bag, and painting it with red crayon and they red color. Physical Development Class has also been lots of fun for them since the music has been related to the farm and they have enjoyed “riding” on horses, listening to fun music.  They even wore cowboys hats as well!
