September 2013 Week 2

This week we saw a great improvement in the Big Bears class, as they have been following instructions much more carefully. They were happy to make a face family album. They created their face using their imagination.

Next week we will discover with them the different parts of the house. They will learn what each room is used for. We will be covering the following vocabulary, as well: house, living room, kitchen, bathroom, bedroom, and dining room.

We will practice numbers one and two. They will learn not only how to say the numbers, but to recognize each number and understand what each one represents.

Big Bears will practice the following language patterns: May I go to the bathroom? What do you see?  I see…

Big Bears have been very attentive in learning the following song. We encourage you to try this one at home!

Zoom, zoom, zoom

We´re going to the moon

Zoom, zoom, zoom

We´ll get there very soon

5, 4, 3, 2, 1 Blast off!

Daniela Valdes was our super kid on Thursday. She had a great time all day long!

Here are some recent pictures of our classroom activities.

Have a great long weekend with your family!

Thank you.

Hugging is a good medicine

It transfers energy and gives the person hugged an emotional lift. You need four hugs a day for survival, eight for maintenance, and twelve for growth. Scientists say that hugging is a form of communication because it can say things you don´t have the words for.

And the nicest thing about a hug is that you usually can´t give one without getting one!

Am I a boy or am I a girl? – September Week 1

Where is your nose? Where are your ears? This week was all about your child. We reviewed body parts and we learned some new ones such as belly button. We also talked about  feelings and related these feelings to pictures of different faces

We have been giving the kids the opportunity of doing things on their own. They are encouraged to open their own lunchbox and lunch containers,  to eat and to clean up by themselves. Self sufficiency increases self esteem, making each one feel more capable and independent.

Next week we will be focusing on the family theme. We will talk about Mom and Dad, grandparents, sisters, brothers and babies. If you have not yet sent your box with pictures of your family we recommend you to send it as soon as possible since we will be using it again next week.

I have seen some great lunch ideas in the classroom that I would like to share:

Fruit, such as apple, kiwi, pear, strawberries, grapes, mango, and pineapple (kids are more likely to eat it if it is cut into small pieces). They love to eat banana and they are able to peel it on their  own and take small bites of it.

We have also seen healthy granola  and fruit bars instead of cookies which kids enjoy eating. Ham and cheese  or peanut butter and jelly sandwiches have also been included in their lunchboxes. Children like to eat sausages, but we strongly recommend for them to be cut into small pieces.

I hope this information is useful. Please do not hesitate to write any comments you would like to share. Have a great weekend!

We are happy to share pictures with you of your childrens’ activities during this week. We hope you enjoy them!

Body Parts

All of our students have been enjoying our Body Parts theme. The main songs we have selected that are related to this subject are: Head, Shoulders, Knees, Toes; If You’re Happy, and One Fine Face.

For recent photos and other information, please take a look at what your kids have been doing in the classroom by clicking on the menus above. Choose the name of your child’s class and you will be directed to the latest news.

September Week 1

We really appreciated having you as Big Bears in our Open House.Thank you! We hope you had a great time. Big Bears were excited looking at their puppets made by you. Please look at the following pictures.

This week Big Bears were able to recognize different parts of their body. They created Sesame Street characters such as Big Bird, Cookie Monster and Elmo. They used diverse techniques and materials such as paper bags, feathers, paint, brushes, glue, eyes, sponges, etc.

They had the opportunity to express their feelings. They sang and acted out each feeling in different ways.

Big Bears were very happy singing ¨Look who came to school today¨.

Next week we will talk about family members and what each one represents. We will learn about our country and why we are celebrating the Mexican Independence.

Have a nice weekend!
